We landed in Srinagar around 9:00 AM. The weather was cool and fresh very different from the cities. If you are planning a trip to Kashmir, I suggest booking a flight that arrives in the morning so you have the full day ahead.

10:30 AM – Shikara Ride on Dal Lake– The first thing we did was head to Dal Lake for a Shikara ride. It is peaceful and the best way to start your trip.

• Ride cost: ₹600–₹800 per hour. We paid ₹700 for 1.5 hours.
• Book directly at the ghat. We used Ghat No. 17 and the boat owner was polite and gave us a calm ride.
• You will see floating shops, houses and local life on the water.

1:00 PM – Hotel Check-in and Lunch– We stayed at Hotel Welcome Residency just 10 minutes from Dal Lake.

8:00 AM – Breakfast at the Hotel– We had a warm breakfast at Hotel Welcome Residency. It included toast, eggs, paratha and tea nothing fancy but good to start the day.

9:30 AM – Explore Old Srinagar & Jamia Masjid– After breakfast, we booked a local cab (₹300–₹400) and drove to the Old City. This area is full of narrow lanes, small shops and historic charm. The main spot here is Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta.

• Visit Duration: About 1 hour

7:00 AM – Breakfast at the Hotel– We started the day early with a hot breakfast at the hotel. We had tea, toast, eggs, and some aloo parathas. After packing a light day bag we got ready to leave for Gulmarg.

8:30 AM – Drive to Gulmarg– Our cab arrived at 8:30 AM. The drive from Srinagar to Gulmarg takes about 2 hours. The road is smooth, and the views on the way are really nice—lots of tall trees, small villages and mountain views.

• You can book a private cab through your hotel or a local travel desk.

11:00 AM – Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve– Once we reached Gulmarg we first went to the Biosphere Reserve. It is a peaceful forest area with walking trails. We saw a few birds and lots of pine trees.

• If you are a nature lover you will really enjoy this place

It was calm, green and much quieter than the main tourist areas. Great for photos and walking.

1:30 PM – Gondola Ride & Lunch– Next, we headed to the Gondola Ride the most famous thing to do in Gulmarg. It takes you up the mountain for amazing views and snow activities (depending on the season).

• We took both phases and the total round-trip cost was ₹1,690 per person

At the top the snow views were amazing. Even in April there was still some snow left. We had lunch at a small café near the gondola base basic but tasty food.

7:00 PM – Return to Srinagar & Dinner– We left Gulmarg around 6:00 PM and reached our hotel in Srinagar by 8:30 PM. It was a bit late but the hotel kitchen stayed open for us.

• We kept it light—dal, rice, and salad.

8:30 AM – Drive to Pahalgam– We left Srinagar by 8:30 AM. The drive to Pahalgam takes around 2 hours 30 minutes depending on the traffic.

• We booked it through a local travel agency

The road passes through saffron fields and small towns. It is a scenic drive and gives you a feel of local life in Kashmir. If you are doing Kashmir by car the route to Pahalgam is smooth and well-marked.

11:00 AM – Betaab Valley Visit– Our first stop was Betaab Valley named after the Bollywood movie “Betaab” that was shot here.

8:30 AM – Drive to Sonamarg– We left for Sonamarg at 8:30 AM. The road from Srinagar to Sonamarg takes about 2 hours and goes through some beautiful valleys.

• The road was smooth and we made a few stops for photos along the way.

11:00 AM – Thajiwas Glacier Visit & Lunch– Once we reached Sonamarg we took a short pony ride to Thajiwas Glacier. You can also walk if you are fit but it takes about an hour.

At the glacier, we saw fresh snow and cold streams. It was very refreshing and fun to just play around or relax with the view. We had lunch at a nearby roadside dhaba simple food again veg thali and Maggi.

1:30 PM – Sindh River & Local Market Walk– After lunch, we walked along the Sindh River which runs right through Sonamarg. The water is very clear and cold. There are big rocks around where you can sit, relax and take pictures.

We also visited a small local market where you can buy Kashmiri shawls, handmade keychains, dry fruits and saffron. The sellers were friendly and not too pushy. This relaxed part of the day helped us enjoy the slow pace of Kashmir. It is a good way to end your Kashmir tour itinerary on a calm note.

4:00 PM – Return to Srinagar– We started the drive back to Srinagar around 4:00 PM and reached by 6:00 PM. The roads were not too busy so the return was smooth.

7:00 PM – Farewell Dinner at a Local Restaurant– For our last dinner in Srinagar, we visited Mughal Darbar a well-known local restaurant.

• Cost for two: ₹1,500
• We ordered Rista, Kashmiri Pulao and Phirni for dessert. The flavors were rich and the service was great.

This dinner felt like a perfect ending to our 5-day journey.

Day 6 – Departure Day: Packing Up & Saying Goodbye
